Triton is a Dubai-based, five-piece Groove/Metalcore band formed in 2021 by Dion Greenwood and Hijazi Zaiton. The band has steadily climbed the ranks of the local music scene, building a name for themselves through notable achievements such as being featured in the Khaleej Times and on Radio 103.8 Dubai Eye, and performing at prominent venues like The Fridge. As Triton continue to hone their sound and refine our stage presence, the ultimate goal is to reach a larger audience and embark on tours in the future.

“Grim” is a dark-themed song about a fictional person cursed to fail constantly throughout their life and live in perpetual misery. The song serves as a callout to those dealing with personal struggles, aiming to make them feel seen and understood. The track features melodic verses and eerie pre-choruses that draw the listener into the mind of the fictional character, creating an atmosphere of struggle and suffering. The theme is further emphasized by an eerie spoken section halfway through the song:

Take your time to watch me die,
Cries carved in flesh, home to no bride,
Shackle vain seed, force-fed demise,
Shallow grave mourning follows this child.

This section is followed by a melancholic bridge that builds into an epic crescendo, featuring harmonies and soaring guitars, and concludes with a melodic shred solo leading into the outro.

MAKING OF THE SONG

“Blessed by the Grim” is a song crafted by Triton from long-forgotten old demos. The songwriting process began with the main verse riff, which underwent several rewrites until it achieved Triton’s signature groove—a feel inspired by Pantera. Interestingly, the song was written in reverse; the outro riff, originally composed by bass player Hijazi in an old demo, was later reworked by lead guitarist Dion to fit the song and create an epic crescendo to close it. The intro riff was added last, designed to create tension with an unsettling start before transitioning into the groove. This riff was inspired by drum parts initially written by former drummer Drona Antony and later refined by current drummer Raeansh Negi.

As a self-produced band committed to maintaining that title, Triton recorded the song at 105 Studios—one of the best-sounding and most underrated local studios—owned by good friend and local death metal musician Ahmed Gamil of Reprobate. Hijazi, Dion, and Tomi worked closely with Ahmed to ensure the song received the production quality it deserved. The mixing was handled by Dion, while the mastering was completed by Tomislav.
