Ell Freeman, a neuroscientist by day and a passionate musician by night, has been crafting melodic and emotive songs since childhood. Despite his lifelong love for music, it wasn’t until his mid-40s that he began pairing his compositions with lyrics. His extensive songbook spans a wide array of retro genres, from indie rock and pop to punk, soul-funk, ballads, and even bossa nova. This versatility shines through in his live performances across London, as well as in his recent international debut in Maringá, Brazil.

 “Cold Shoulder” is just one track from Ell Freemans EP, A Hard Place, which encapsulates the frustration and anxiety of recent years—Brexit, lockdowns, a family breakup, and a rocky return to dating. The EP features high-energy rock songs from his former band, Stonyhills, alongside more introspective tracks written in recent years. Influences like Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, David Bowie, The Police, The Jam, and The Clash are woven throughout, creating a rich tapestry of sound. With few exceptions, Ell wrote, performed, and produced the entire EP himself, including the accompanying videos.
